  • butter for greasing your pan
  • 1-2 loaves french bread cut into thick slices
  • 12 eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 apples cut into chunks
  • 1/3 cup pecans roughly chopped
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar for topping
  • 1 tsp cinnamon for topping
  • powdered sugar optional

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Lightly grease your casserole dish with a stick of butter (I used a 9x13 dish)
  • Arrange the slices of bread into the casserole dish so that the tops are facing up
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread into the casserole dish, being sure to soak each piece.
  • Add the apples and pecans, pushing them down into the cracks between each slice of bread.
  • Combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon into a small bowl and sprinkle on top.
  • Bake in the oven uncovered for 40 minutes.
  • Let cool before serving.¬† I dusted some confectioners sugar on top and to make it a little more¬†special, a dollop of whipped cream.
