It’s August. Why don’t you

It’s August. Why don’t you…

There’s something special about August. It’s just the best of both worlds. You see, I love fall. It’s very much my favorite season.  But I am also a summer girl at heart. So to me, August is like having your cake and eating it too.  Perhaps it’s knowing that summer is winding down and that there are new beginnings around the corner with back to school, getting into routines, fall approaching and the -BER months. Around this time every year I try to cram in every last bit of summer, right up through Labor Day hanging out poolside, grilling while also getting excited for all the pumpkin spice that will be coursing through my veins, sweaters  and cozy recipes.

If you are like me. Here are some ways to enjoy every last drop of August.

Pick some sunflowers. (If you’re in the Upstate area, here are some of my fave spots).

Go to the beach. And bring back some sand and seashells so you can cherish your trip with this sweet memory box.

Have a lobster roll.

Hit up the farmer’s market and enjoy fresh summer produce like peaches, zucchini and corn.

This summer stonefruit and burrata salad has been on repeat all season.

I also have my favorite zucchini recipes here.

Dry your hydrangeas. Now is a great time to start clipping them and drying them out to use all year round.

Summer Bucket list

summer flat lay

Sweet summertime! The days get a little lazier, you stay up a little later, ice cream is perfectly acceptable every night after dinner and dips in the pool count as showering/bathing. There’s so many reasons I love summer.  Below I’m sharing some ideas that are on my summer bucket list as well as a free printable Summer Bucket List with ideas to get you started.

My 2021 Summer Bucket List

Berry picking – The boys LOVE berry picking and obviously eating as they go! After strawberry picking, making strawberry shortcake is a must! My favorite version is my strawberry cheesecake trifle. If you’re local, we went strawberry picking at Stanton’s Farm in Selkirk, its a small family owned farm and the strawberries were delish! They will have blueberries in July too!

Camp outside with the kids – put up a tent in the backyard, make some glow jars (you can see my easy DIY here), eat s’mores and tell ghost stories.  Rick and Maxwell did this last summer and had a “boys night” and Maxwell still talks about it, he thought it was the greatest thing.

Try an Aperol Spritz – believe it or not I have never had an Aperol Spritz and it sounds like the perfect summer drink. So it’s a goal of mine to try one this summer. My other favorite summer cocktail is my Paloma recipe. You can also check out this list of the best margarita recipes! Make it a goal to tick off every one this summer 🙂

Host a BBQ with friends – after the last year we’ve had, I’m ready to have some friends over, kick back on the deck and get to entertain. If you’re looking for an eye-catching meal idea that is sure to wow, check out my grilled steak charcuterie board.

Make a little road-side farmstand – last year I got into gardening and I would love to have a cute little roadside farmstand with some of my home grown veggies and flowers for people as they drive by. This year may not be anything fancy but I’m determined to give it a shot.

Make homemade ice cream – this is such an easy recipe and the kids always love it! Click here for the recipe
