Finally it’s here – Dude Man’s Big Boy Room Reveal! Designing a big boy room was a little more challenging than I thought it was going to be. I wanted something classic that would grow with him and would fit with the rest of the style of our home, yet reflect his individual style and personality. It’s quickly become my favorite room in the house. Even when Dude isn’t home, I find myself standing in there, because it reminds me of him.
(Throughout the post I’ve linked some of my favorite pieces from his room so you can shop too and re-create the look! Click the links throughout and the thumbnails underneath each picture.)

For a classic Big Boy Room I knew I wanted the color scheme to be cool grays and blues. We painted the walls Passive Gray by Sherwin Williams. I love this shade of gray because it has cool undertones to it and plays with the blue nicely. (A little back story about picking paint colors – I sometimes have a hard time deciding. When we were re-doing our previous home, I knew I wanted our living room/dining room to be gray and I ended up having hubby repaint several times until it was just the right shade. It was literally like 50 shades of gray. I recommend selecting a few options and painting little swatches on the wall of each color. Then once it’s dry, observe during daylight and night so you can see which you like best).
I used all of the furniture from dude’s nursery including the bed which we were able to transition to a full size. Beddy’s sent me his bedding in the Sketched Boy’s Room Print. If you haven’t heard of Beddy’s bedding before they have made making the bed and washing bedding literally so easy. Beddy’s is a one-piece bedding system that wraps around the bed like a fitted sheet and actually stays in place! It has a zipper so that you can totally unzip the top from the bottom to make for easy washing and to make the bed you just zip up!!!!
I added pops of blue with these striped curtains from Target and some throw pillows.
I had been looking for some wooden signs for each of the boy’s rooms with their names. I had this one made from Hickory Hollow Designs. It’s a husband and wife team out of Pennsylvania. They have their own Etsy shop where you can create and personalize your own sign. They were so incredibly easy to work with and they do such quality work.
Right now Dude Man is obsessed with all things Dinosaurs. I found these cute dinosaur print wall stick-ons and this sign from Hobby Lobby. I’ve linked some similar ones below.
On the other side of the room is this tall dresser which was his original nursery furniture. I love all of the shelving and the height that it provides. I styled the shelves with some ceramic dinosaurs I had found, and some other pieces that are personal to Dude in addition to his favorite books.
He also had a ton of little toy dinosaurs that were always all over the floor. I placed them on this cute wooden shelf we got from Target
My sisters got this wooden sign and had it displayed at my Baby Shower. And I found this cute little glob to add as an accent piece. It reminds me of Dude because he is my inquisitive one.
So there you have it. The perfect Big Boy Room for my dude. I love the way it came out and so does my little man so I’d say it was a success!
