I love the way our house looks in the fall. I personally don’t think you can ever have too many pumpkins or mums. Below I’m sharing some photos of our fall front porch and giving you some tips on how to make your pumpkins last longer.

As always, click the thumbnail photos or links at the bottom of the post to shop.

This year I chose to add lots of heirloom pumpkins in muted tones along the stairs. (Be sure to watch my video below showing you how to make these gems last longer!). I also got traditional cornstalks and placed them in some black urns. (Tip – put some rocks in the bottom of the urn to add weight so they don’t tip over).

Instead of doing a traditional fall wreath, I opted for this door basket from Lauren McBride’s QVC line. I added in some faux flowers and some of my own dried hydrangeas. I love that you can keep this up year ’round and just switch out the flowers with the change of the seasons. This basket is currently unavailable (I’m hoping it comes back soon!!!), but I’ve linked a similar one on Amazon at the end of the post. Fall front porch decor - door basket

Every year I get mums for our front porch and every year they’re dead in two weeks time. This year I switched up my game and got these faux mums from QVC. They are a little more on the expensive side but I look at them as an investment you can use year after year. They come in a variety of colors and are super easy to put together.  They always sell out so be sure to get them now!

I had found these solar powered lanterns at Aldi in the beginning of summer. We had them on our back deck but I brought them out front to add a soft glow to our steps. I’m linking a similar set below.

This outfit is quintessential fall! I’m obsessed with this “Basic Witch” tee and the cardigan reminds me of candycorn. And I can’t even tell you how obsessed I am with these build your own leggings! I opted for the high waisted capri length and I plan on buying a few more!

I bought this leopard colorblock long sleeved shirt last year and I love it! It comes in a variety of colors. Looks cute with the leopard mules!

Jeans, a basic tee or tank and comfy cardi is my go-to outfit! I love this pocket t shirt layered with this deep pocketed cableknit cardigan.

I received sooooo many questions about this tee when I wore it the other day. I love the floral print! I layered my favorite Amazon cardigan to transition it to fall.

DIY fall garland and mantle decor

Fall is by far my favorite time of year! This past week I started adding some fall decor throughout our home. One of my favorite places to switch out the seasonal decor is our fireplace and mantle as it is the focal point of our family room. (You can see my post on how we whitewashed our fireplace here). I am in love with the way my mantle decor came out featuring this  easy DIY fall garland. It was super inexpensive to make too as most of the things can be found at the Dollar Store.

Below I’m sharing my DIY fall garland and mantle decor so that you can

recreate the look too!

You will need:

Directions:

  1. Thread the twine through the eye of your needle and tie a knot at the end.
  2. Using your needle, puncture a hole through the leaf and thread the twine through. Next do the same with your foam pumpkins and acorns. You will need to exert a decent amount of pressure to thread the needle completely though the foam pumpkins and acorns.
  3. Continue with whatever pattern you choose.
  4. Once finished, cut the needle off the twine and tie each end.
  5. Hang on your mantle, windows, doorways, or wherever you’d like.

I love to see what you create so be sure to take a photo and tag me on Instagram @ourtiny_nest!

Mantle decor

I chose to go with more of a fall/harvest theme with pumpkins, leaves and flowers vs Halloween since I can keep it up throughout Thanksgiving but you can do whatever you like. And most of my mantle decor was $30 or less!

The farmhouse window panes and boxwood wreath stay up all year long and then I usually just switch out the other pieces as the seasons change.

I got the glass vases and faux flowers from the Dollar Store.

I love these black tapered candlesticks which you can leave up throughout

most of fall and winter.

Old Navy Fall Try on

This post contains affiliate links meaning I make a small commission.

I recently popped into Old Navy to do a little fall try on session for you all.  They had some great basics for layering for this season.

Here are some of my favorites from my Old Navy fall try on.

You can shop the links by clicking the thumbnails below.

Outfit 1

First up, I tried a pair of their wide leg jeans. I like that these are a high waist to tuck in that mom pooch. I would definitely wear these with a heeled boot or wedges to give some height.

Outfit 2

I paired my basic jeans and top with this utility jacket. I love that it has a cinched waist for a more fitted look.

Outfit 3

This corduroy skirt would be super cute with some brown tights or leggings underneath and a chunky scarf as the weather gets chillier.

Outfit 4

So you all know my love for pantsuits runs deep and so obviously this one had to come home with me. It was on sale leftover from the summer for $16 in store. I paired it with a burnt orange cardigan for a fall look. I think it would look super cute with a white jacket or cardigan for spring/summer as well.

(As I sit here putting this together I realize I may be obsessed with burnt orange)

Outfit 5

I fell in love with these distressed boyfriend jeans! I loved them so much, I went home and bought them online for $24.99. (They came to $45 in store).

Paired with a graphic tee and cardigan it’s a cute casual look.
