Old Navy Fall Try on

This post contains affiliate links meaning I make a small commission.

I recently popped into Old Navy to do a little fall try on session for you all.  They had some great basics for layering for this season.

Here are some of my favorites from my Old Navy fall try on.

You can shop the links by clicking the thumbnails below.

Outfit 1

First up, I tried a pair of their wide leg jeans. I like that these are a high waist to tuck in that mom pooch. I would definitely wear these with a heeled boot or wedges to give some height.

Outfit 2

I paired my basic jeans and top with this utility jacket. I love that it has a cinched waist for a more fitted look.

Outfit 3

This corduroy skirt would be super cute with some brown tights or leggings underneath and a chunky scarf as the weather gets chillier.

Outfit 4

So you all know my love for pantsuits runs deep and so obviously this one had to come home with me. It was on sale leftover from the summer for $16 in store. I paired it with a burnt orange cardigan for a fall look. I think it would look super cute with a white jacket or cardigan for spring/summer as well.

(As I sit here putting this together I realize I may be obsessed with burnt orange)

Outfit 5

I fell in love with these distressed boyfriend jeans! I loved them so much, I went home and bought them online for $24.99. (They came to $45 in store).

Paired with a graphic tee and cardigan it’s a cute casual look.

How to plan for the perfect family photo shoot

A few weekends ago we had our fall family photo shoot. I was so excited to have professional photos done of the family. This was our first time having pictures done of all three of us together since our newborn photo shoot.

fall family photos

I am absolutely in love with the way they all came out and thought I’d share some tips along with our photos.

1.) First things first, pick a photographer

This should be obvious, but choosing a photographer can be tough. I found searching through social media to be super helpful. You can look through a photographer’s work and choose someone who has a similar look that you are going for. Also ask your family and friends for any recommendations.
For our photos we went with Emma from Bella Baby Photography. I first met Emma when she came around and did newborn shots of the babies at the hospital where I worked. You definitely want to work with someone you click with and who you can be relaxed around.

2.) Choose your location

In choosing a location for photos, not only do you want a place with some aesthetically pleasing scenery, but I think it’s also special to pick a place your family loves or that has some meaning.  We chose a nearby park that we go to all the time. For all of my readers who are local to the Albany area, we went to the Crossings Park in Colonie. Their grounds are absolutely gorgeous.

3.) Coordinate outfits

Remember the old days when families would get all dressed up in matching khakis and white shirts for their family photos? Oh man, I do. I can’t tell you how many photos my sisters and I had with those hideous backgrounds at Jc Penney’s or Sears with all three of us girls in matching dresses. (I think that was the thing back then).
It’s nice for your outfits to coordinate somewhat, but to me, I don’t like when everyone’s all matchy matchy. Instead, choose neutrals and then some accent colors. I really wanted my son to be the focus of our photos so I dressed him in a cute plaid shirt.  I chose a nice gray sweater with a plaid button up for my husband and then a cute denim dress with a flannel scarf for me.  I went with colors that would go with the fall scenery.

4.) Work around nap time, meals, and bring bribery

Ok so we all know that kids are totally unpredictable. Make sure the littles have had a nap and have full bellies so that they’re content. I am also a firm believer in bribery (whatever works right?). So pack some goldfish or M&Ms to keep those kiddos happy.

5.) Keep it simple

And lastly, keep it simple. While you want to have an idea of what you want, try not to plan too much and just go with the flow.  You don’t need an elaborate outfit scheme or lots of props either. Honestly, I think sometimes the simpler the better. Just let them capture your family being you and having fun!

Friday Favorites – mules, easy dinner ideas and more decor!

This post contains affiliate links

Happy Friday friends!  This past weekend my baby turned 2 and we’ve been celebrating all week long! I also made a trip to Hobby Lobby and scored some really cute decor. First, let me take a step back. My sister was on the hunt for some decor for her bedroom so I tagged along with all intentions of window shopping and checking out their Christmas stuff. But I found some things I just couldn’t pass up.  I ended up restyling my built ins in the living room (I’ll share that in another post soon), and added some cute farmhouse decor to my kitchen which I’m sharing with you all today.

It’s been awhile since I did a “Friday Favorites” post so I thought I’d share some of the things I’m loving this week.

Mules-

mules shoes

I have never been a shoe fanatic. My super wide, flat 6 1/2s makes me dread shoe shopping. Until I discovered mules that is. They make you look instantly chic and are super comfy. And I think they’re the perfect shoe for the gal on the go or busy moms. Here are some of my favorite pairs (click images to bring you to the site!)

Quick, easy dinners from Trader Joe’s –

Trader Joes frozen meals

So about once a week after I drop off the dude at school I like to hit up TJ’s. I don’t do all of my grocery shopping there but I love them for their frozen meals. They’re great for after working a 12 hour shift or sometimes if I just don’t feel like making dinner but I want to make a wholesome meal.  Our favorites are the mandarin chicken which I serve over some broccoli and brown rice. Or you can serve it with their frozen vegetable rice but sometimes I just eat that as is, it’s so good. And we also love their cheesy spaghetti squash casserole, and butternut squash mac and cheese!

Netflix documentary – The Staircase

Ok so if you don’t know by now, I love true crime documentaries.  I got hooked when I was home on maternity leave and that was all that was on TV.  I just started The Staircase on Netflix. It’s about a woman who was found at the bottom of the staircase in her house and it’s a matter of did her husband kill her or was it an accident? So good. My other favorite for anyone that has HBO is The Jinx. I watched that one in one day.

Blanket Scarves –

bean boots

I snagged this one this week. It’s so big and I love to wear it as a scarf or shawl.  Plus I think this flannel print is perfect for the fall and winter months.

Decorative trays –

farmhouse decor

I was looking to add a touch of farmhouse to my kitchen. I found this cute Thyme sign at Hobby Lobby. To give it a little height I picked up this tray, added a boxwood for some greenery, and then added some other stuff I had around the house. I love the way that a tray can pull together some little knick knacks and make it look a little more elegant. Plus you can change out some of the little elements for different seasons.

Hope you all have a great weekend! I would love to know some things you’re crushing on this week.
