My current skin care essentials that won’t break the bank

I have always been really blessed with overall good skin.  But these past winter months have been harsh, and being pregnant on top of it, I had to change up my routine. I used to be able to get away with a quick exfoliator, some witch hazel, and some moisturizer from the drugstore.  Early into my pregnancy, my face became so dry and inflamed. No matter what I did, it was red and irritated. (So different than my pregnancy with Maxwell, I had a glow the entire time.) I went in for a facial for a quick fix and she was able to recommend some products that are hydrating yet wouldn’t break the bank.

Here are my current skin care essentials:

(And in true blogger fashion, I’ve linked them all for you)

The Body Shop Aloe Vera Calming Foaming Wash

This is such a gentle cleanser. I use it every morning on my face in the shower. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh for the day yet it’s also calming for your skin.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Rosewater

rosewater spray

As soon as I get out of the shower, I use a few spritzes of this rosewater spray for some extra hydration before applying my daily moisturizer. It helps to lock all that moisture in. I also keep it in my bag and will use throughout the day for a little pick me up for my skin and to give it a glow.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

The Body Shop vitamin E cream

This is my go-to all day moisturizer. It’s hydrating, yet not heavy. It won’t leave your skin feeling greasy throughout the day and won’t clog your pores. You don’t need alot, just a little dab goes a long way. I love to put a little extra on my lips too.

I also love Caudalie Vinosource sorbet as well and will switch them out time to time.

Caudalie Gentle Cleansing Milk

caudalie cleanser

I use this as my night time cleanser but you could also use as your daytime as well.

The Body Shop Aloe Soothing Night Cream

I had never used night creams. I had the thought that putting moisturizer on overnight would clog my pores and lead to breakouts. This has a velvety, whipped texture that’s perfect to use overnight for moisture and to repair skin. It’s not oily, or greasy, and will help keep your skin clear.

Facial masks

So about 2-3 times a week, I take a little “me-time”, apply a mask and sit down with a cup of tea.  My favorites are Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask and Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mask.

The Best DIY Coffee Face Scrub

As a busy mom, the first step to my low key beauty regimen is a nice, glowing complexion.  This is the Best DIY Coffee Face Scrub recipe.  It combines my love of coffee with 3 easy natural ingredients for brighter skin.

The Best DIY Coffee Face Scrub

When it comes to my skincare and beauty regimen, I’m a low maintenance girl. My routine is usually a face scrub for some exfoliation, a moisturizer, a swipe of bronzer for some color, and maybe some mascara.  I love this DIY Coffee Face Scrub recipe.  It seriously works better than any other expensive product I’ve ever used.  The coffee contains antioxidants which works to help protect our skin from free radicals thereby increasing bloodflow, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and reversing the effects of UV damage from the sun. The sugar helps slough away any dead skin cells leaving behind fresh skin. And the coconut oil packs an extra punch of moisturizer as well as antimicrobial properties for any acne prone skin.

After a cold winter my skin’s been looking pretty dull and lackluster.  Rubbing on this DIY Coffee Face Scrub seriously felt like an energy shot for my skin!  And it left my skin looking so refreshed after, much like I look after drinking a cup of my favorite joe.

See recipe and directions below:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of ground coffee
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil

Directions:

  • In a bowl combine coffee and sugar mixing together.
  • Add in coconut oil, stirring well.
  • Apply a warm washcloth to your face for a few minutes (this helps to open your pores so it can drink up more of the coffee goodness reaping more of the benefits.)
  • Apply scrub mixture in circular motions, being careful not to get into your eyes or mouth.
  • Let sit for 15 minutes
  • Wash off with a warm washcloth
  • Store the rest in a mason jar in your bathroom or in a cool place.

Friday favorites – Hearth & Hand farmhouse wreath, best bronzer and more

Happy FRI-YAYYYY! I can’t believe another week gone by and its already the last weekend of January! We are officially in the coldest months of winter and it makes me want to just do all things cozy a la curl up with a big blanket, drink a warm beverage and watch crime documentaries all day.

Yesterday my sister and I went on a little shopping outing to some of our favorite places, Hobby Lobby and Ulta – seriously we were like kids in a candy shop. And while I was strolling the aisles testing out all the different cosmetics and lathering myself with various lotions, a thought hit me – why not start a “Friday Favorites” post where every few weeks I share some of my favorite things that I am crushing on at the moment.  So without further adieu lets get to it…
