It’s no secret that fall is my favorite. There’s something special about September, kicking off the -BER months and the upcoming cozy season. I’m sharing a list of things to do in September to kick off the upcoming -Ber months.
Things to do in September to kick off the -Ber months
1.) Have one final pool party and BBQ to close out the summer.
2.) Give your leggings a refresh. Fall is for leggings and all the cozy cardigans. And if you’re like me, it’s probably time to replace your leggings if you wear them to death. These are my favorite leggings.
3.) Go visit a local sunflower farm. And if you are local to the Capital District/Upstate New York area, I’ve rounded up some local sunflower farms.

4.) Make a simmer pot to make your home smell amazing. This one is my favorite for fall. But I also love this one too, especially around the holidays.
5.) Get your porch decorated for fall with all the pumpkins and mums. You can shop my past year’s porch decor and get inspiration here.

6.) Curl up on the couch with a blanket and watch some fall movies. These are some of my favorites for this time of year.

7.) Go apple picking then go home and whip up some yummy recipes with apples. Try my banana split apple nachos, or my apple and brie flatbread with hot honey.
8.) Dry your hydrangeas. Enjoy the beauty of these blooms all year. Here are my tips on how to dry your hydrangeas.
9.) Start transitioning to comforting soups. From crockpot butternut squash to a hearty spinach tomato tortellini, and a medicine ball chicken noodle. Here are some of the best soup recipes for soup season.

10.) Go on a hike and admire the fall foliage.
10.) Be basic and indulge in a PSL. Or make your own at home. Try my pumpkin cold foam iced coffee. Linking the recipe here. Or my healthier version of a pumpkin spice latte.

11.) Do some fall reading. Whether it’s a thriller that you will have you at the edge of your seat or a feel good book you crave, check out this list of fall reads.
12.) Create the ultimate fall playlist. Think like Phoebe Bridges, Lana Del Rey, Noah Kahan. You can listen to my fall feels playlist on Spotify here.
13.) Get your cozy sweaters ready. Sweata weatha is my absolute favorite. And these are some of the best sweaters for sweater weather.
14.) Watch some football! Head to your neighborhood high school to cheer on the home team, or just get a bunch of friends together to watch from home. And if you’re not into football, you can still take part for the food, or if you’re like me, Taylor. Be sure to make my baked dill pickle ranch chips!

September 7, 2024 at 12:07 pmOr take a hike. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, September and October are months that we have our best weather (except for the school, I teach at-it is pretty much foggy everyday.). Thanks for the tips.

September 12, 2024 at 10:53 amI just decorated this week (I thought I would wait till the 1st of October) and I will be checking out those leggings: mine are really old. I only wear black ones if I am not working out and so I tend to wear them at least once a week in the winter.

January 11, 2025 at 11:18 amHey, loved the suggestions! 🍂 September definitely sets the tone for the -BER months, and your list is spot-on for cozying up to fall.
Quick question: do you have any tips on how to make the transition from summer decor to fall decor a bit smoother? It feels like a big shift to me! Thanks again for sharing.
