Sharing how to live your best summer like you’re in a Nancy Meyers movie

I have been in love with the Nancy Meyers aesthetic long before I knew it was a thing. It started with my love for the Father of the Bride House when I was a little girl. Then once I saw Something’s Gotta Give I fell in love again with Diane Keaton’s Beach House. And then again when I saw It’s Complicated. Those homes all invoke a feeling of warmth and cozy, but also a lifestyle.

And while the Nancy Meyers aesthetic can be enjoyed all year round (like hello cozy house from The Holiday), it’s a total different vibe for summer. Think blue and white decor, breezy white linen outfits, freshly cut hydrangeas and perusing the farmer’s market. It’s a total lifestyle and feeling of easy, breezy sophistication and really just romanticizing your life.  Here’s how to live your best Nancy Meyers Summer.

How to live a Nancy Meyers Summer

1.) Give your wardrobe some breezy classics – the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Nancy Meyers style is Diane Keaton in her linen pants with her white turtleneck. And while turtlenecks aren’t a summer wardrobe staple, it just exudes classic, effortless style. Think linen pants, a breezy button down shirt, or chambray top like Chessy from The Parent Trap.

2.) Stop at a farmer’s market for fresh produce or harvest something right from your garden. Then go home to your beautiful kitchen and whip up something in season with your bounty. Like this peach and corn panzanella salad.

2.) Create a vibe with the ultimate playlist. Another thing I love about all the Nancy Meyers movies – the soundtrack! I love this one on Spotify.

3.) Splurge a little. Whether it’s on the best sea salt, truffle goat cheese, a luxe candle or that extra croissant. Do you think a coastal granny like Diane or Meryl would ever say no?

4.) Display fresh hydrangeas, flowers or a bowl of lemons. They are just quintessential summer and Nancy Meyers style.

 

5.) Sip a glass of chilled white wine out on your deck. Pretend you have a perfect view of the ocean or just appreciate your current view.

6.) Have a picnic on the beach a la Jack and Diane. Whether it’s just pizza and a bottle of Rose or a full on charcuterie spread. Get your best blanket, basket and hit the sand.

7.) Give your bedding a refresh. Crisp white sheets with lots of layering and textured throws will have you sleeping like an unbothered queen.

8.) Host an intimate alfresco dinner party. Invite over just a few of your best girlfriends for a little outdoor dinner party. Keep the menu simple, light and easy so that you can just spend quality time with your guests. And of course have lots of candles, fresh flowers, and keep the wine flowing.

You can serve this delicious Caesar Pasta Salad with some grilled chicken or fish. Or keep it simple with appetizers like this summer burrata board.

9.) Curl up with a book. Find the coziest nook and just get lost in a good book. Here are some great beach reads.

10.) Go for a walk on the beach and collect shells or stones.  One of my favorite moments in Something’s Gotta Give is the scene where Erica and Harry are strolling the beach and she collects all the perfect white beach stones to bring home. While he prefers the black ones.
