My current skincare routine

My current skincare routine

One of the lessons I learned from 2020 was to take better care of my skin. Here I am in my 30’s and I didn’t have any sort of skincare routine. So after some research and trial and error, I’ve found a low maintenance routine that I can stick to and gives me great results.

Note – everyone’s needs are going to be a little different. This is just what works for me.

I don’t know if it was stress, or having to wear a mask all the time but I noticed that my skin was starting to show it’s age and become very dry. So for me, my priorities were hydration and some sort of anti-aging because it’s never too early! Below I’m sharing my current skincare routine and you can click the links or photos to shop.

Morning

1.) Exfoliating sugar scrub – I use this 2-3 times a week to gently exfoliate. It’s great for all skin types, natural and cruelty free! (I use alot of Tula’s products because of these reasons). Use my code OURTINYNEST for 15% off your first order.

2.) Cleanser – I wash my face morning and night with Tula’s cult classic purifying face cleanser. It’s packed with superfoods and probiotics to be extra soothing to your skin and reduce inflammation. But it’s also gentle enough so it doesn’t strip your skin away of moisture. My favorite cleanser! You can use my code OURTINYNEST to get 15% off your first purchase!

3.) Hyaluronic Acid Serum – I apply a few drops of this Hyaluronic Acid Serum for extra moisture and it also helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Applying this first also helps to really absorb your moisturizer.

4.) Vitamin C Moisturizer – I love this Revive and Glow Gel Cream from Roc. It’s light and non greasy and has Vitamin C to brighten your skin, help reduce dark spots and give you an overall glow.

5.) Body Lotion – My favorite body lotion I apply as soon as I get out of the shower. I feel like it keeps my skin soft and moisturized all day long and it doesn’t leave a residue.

6.) Isle of Paradise Tanning Drops – I add a few drops to my body lotion and apply a few times a week to look naturally sun-kissed. I use shade medium. (Be sure to wash your hands afterwards or use a self-tanning mit).

7.) Lip protectant – Between the cold winter weather and especially with having to wear masks, my lips were soooo dry. This locks in moisture, serves a barrier and gives your lips a natural sheen.

Night

1.) Cleanser – I wash my face again with this cleanser.

2.) Hyaluronic Acid Serum – Add a few drops of HA serum before applying my retinol.

3.) Retinol Anti-Aging Cream – This retinol guarantees results in 1 week. It’s helped to even out my skin tone and complexion, and will help reduce signs of aging. Retinol can be very drying so I would start low and go slow when starting out. And be careful around the eyes.

4.) Roc retinol eye cream – this is the newest addition to my routine. Specifically targets the lines and wrinkles around your eyes. It’s also helped reduce some of my dark circles.

My Must Have Beauty Product During Pregnancy

This post is sponsored by Bio-Oil but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Pregnancy is a time that brings about many skin changes for women, from dryness, to blemishes and stretch marks. I’m sharing my must have beauty product during pregnancy to help your skin look and feel it’s best.

I recently attended the Biggest Baby Shower Event in New York City hosted by Big City Moms. It was a great evening to discover some cool baby brands and products as well as a chance to connect with other expecting mamas.

While there, I visited the Bio-Oil booth. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Bio-Oil, it’s the world’s leading product for scars and stretch marks and recommended by many dermatologists. In addition to helping with the appearance of scars and stretch marks, it’s also one of those beauty products that has multiple uses so you really get the most bang for your buck.

Bio-Oil can be used to:

  • Help improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks
  • Help improve the appearance of uneven skin tone that so often happens during pregnancy
  • Help reduce the look of aging skin
  • Help keep your skin hydrated

This pregnancy, as my bump has been growing and that skin has been stretching, my belly has been very itchy. I’ve been massaging a few drops of Bio-Oil on my skin as soon as I get out of the shower to help keep my skin hydrated and lock in that moisture. And I will definitely plan on using it postpartum to help my c-section scar heal as well.

I also love to use it as a makeup remover, to tame any fly-aways in my hair, add a few drops in the bathtub for a hydrating soak, and apply to dry cuticles and chapped lips.

How does it work?

Bio-Oil is composed of a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base. It contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin oil which makes it light and non-greasy and ensures that all of the beneficial plant extracts and vitamins are easily absorbed.

How should you use it?

It is recommended that you apply twice daily for three months. During pregnancy, they recommend starting use during your second trimester.

You can head to any of your local stores to pick up some Bio-Oil to try yourself. And be on the lookout for a post later this summer featuring my review of the product.

My current skin care essentials that won’t break the bank

I have always been really blessed with overall good skin.  But these past winter months have been harsh, and being pregnant on top of it, I had to change up my routine. I used to be able to get away with a quick exfoliator, some witch hazel, and some moisturizer from the drugstore.  Early into my pregnancy, my face became so dry and inflamed. No matter what I did, it was red and irritated. (So different than my pregnancy with Maxwell, I had a glow the entire time.) I went in for a facial for a quick fix and she was able to recommend some products that are hydrating yet wouldn’t break the bank.

Here are my current skin care essentials:

(And in true blogger fashion, I’ve linked them all for you)

The Body Shop Aloe Vera Calming Foaming Wash

body shop aloe vera cleanser

This is such a gentle cleanser. I use it every morning on my face in the shower. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh for the day yet it’s also calming for your skin.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Rosewater

rosewater spray

As soon as I get out of the shower, I use a few spritzes of this rosewater spray for some extra hydration before applying my daily moisturizer. It helps to lock all that moisture in. I also keep it in my bag and will use throughout the day for a little pick me up for my skin and to give it a glow.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

The Body Shop vitamin E cream

This is my go-to all day moisturizer. It’s hydrating, yet not heavy. It won’t leave your skin feeling greasy throughout the day and won’t clog your pores. You don’t need alot, just a little dab goes a long way. I love to put a little extra on my lips too.

I also love Caudalie Vinosource sorbet as well and will switch them out time to time.

Caudalie Gentle Cleansing Milk

caudalie cleanser

I use this as my night time cleanser but you could also use as your daytime as well.

The Body Shop Aloe Soothing Night Cream

body shop aloe night cream

I had never used night creams. I had the thought that putting moisturizer on overnight would clog my pores and lead to breakouts. This has a velvety, whipped texture that’s perfect to use overnight for moisture and to repair skin. It’s not oily, or greasy, and will help keep your skin clear.

Facial masks

So about 2-3 times a week, I take a little “me-time”, apply a mask and sit down with a cup of tea.  My favorites are Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask and Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mask.

The Best DIY Coffee Face Scrub

As a busy mom, the first step to my low key beauty regimen is a nice, glowing complexion.  This is the Best DIY Coffee Face Scrub recipe.  It combines my love of coffee with 3 easy natural ingredients for brighter skin.

The Best DIY Coffee Face Scrub

When it comes to my skincare and beauty regimen, I’m a low maintenance girl. My routine is usually a face scrub for some exfoliation, a moisturizer, a swipe of bronzer for some color, and maybe some mascara.  I love this DIY Coffee Face Scrub recipe.  It seriously works better than any other expensive product I’ve ever used.  The coffee contains antioxidants which works to help protect our skin from free radicals thereby increasing bloodflow, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and reversing the effects of UV damage from the sun. The sugar helps slough away any dead skin cells leaving behind fresh skin. And the coconut oil packs an extra punch of moisturizer as well as antimicrobial properties for any acne prone skin.

After a cold winter my skin’s been looking pretty dull and lackluster.  Rubbing on this DIY Coffee Face Scrub seriously felt like an energy shot for my skin!  And it left my skin looking so refreshed after, much like I look after drinking a cup of my favorite joe.

See recipe and directions below:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of ground coffee
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil

Directions:

  • In a bowl combine coffee and sugar mixing together.
  • Add in coconut oil, stirring well.
  • Apply a warm washcloth to your face for a few minutes (this helps to open your pores so it can drink up more of the coffee goodness reaping more of the benefits.)
  • Apply scrub mixture in circular motions, being careful not to get into your eyes or mouth.
  • Let sit for 15 minutes
  • Wash off with a warm washcloth
  • Store the rest in a mason jar in your bathroom or in a cool place.
