Pregnancy is a time that brings about many skin changes for women, from dryness, to blemishes and stretch marks. I’m sharing my must have beauty product during pregnancy to help your skin look and feel it’s best.
I recently attended the Biggest Baby Shower Event in New York City hosted by Big City Moms. It was a great evening to discover some cool baby brands and products as well as a chance to connect with other expecting mamas.
While there, I visited the Bio-Oil booth. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Bio-Oil, it’s the world’s leading product for scars and stretch marks and recommended by many dermatologists. In addition to helping with the appearance of scars and stretch marks, it’s also one of those beauty products that has multiple uses so you really get the most bang for your buck.
Bio-Oil can be used to:
- Help improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks
- Help improve the appearance of uneven skin tone that so often happens during pregnancy
- Help reduce the look of aging skin
- Help keep your skin hydrated
This pregnancy, as my bump has been growing and that skin has been stretching, my belly has been very itchy. I’ve been massaging a few drops of Bio-Oil on my skin as soon as I get out of the shower to help keep my skin hydrated and lock in that moisture. And I will definitely plan on using it postpartum to help my c-section scar heal as well.
I also love to use it as a makeup remover, to tame any fly-aways in my hair, add a few drops in the bathtub for a hydrating soak, and apply to dry cuticles and chapped lips.
How does it work?
Bio-Oil is composed of a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base. It contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin oil which makes it light and non-greasy and ensures that all of the beneficial plant extracts and vitamins are easily absorbed.
How should you use it?
It is recommended that you apply twice daily for three months. During pregnancy, they recommend starting use during your second trimester.
You can head to any of your local stores to pick up some Bio-Oil to try yourself. And be on the lookout for a post later this summer featuring my review of the product.

I have always been really blessed with overall good skin. But these past winter months have been harsh, and being pregnant on top of it, I had to change up my routine. I used to be able to get away with a quick exfoliator, some witch hazel, and some moisturizer from the drugstore. Early into my pregnancy, my face became so dry and inflamed. No matter what I did, it was red and irritated. (So different than my pregnancy with Maxwell, I had a glow the entire time.) I went in for a facial for a quick fix and she was able to recommend some products that are hydrating yet wouldn’t break the bank.
Here are my current skin care essentials:
(And in true blogger fashion, I’ve linked them all for you)
This is such a gentle cleanser. I use it every morning on my face in the shower. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh for the day yet it’s also calming for your skin.
As soon as I get out of the shower, I use a few spritzes of this rosewater spray for some extra hydration before applying my daily moisturizer. It helps to lock all that moisture in. I also keep it in my bag and will use throughout the day for a little pick me up for my skin and to give it a glow.
This is my go-to all day moisturizer. It’s hydrating, yet not heavy. It won’t leave your skin feeling greasy throughout the day and won’t clog your pores. You don’t need alot, just a little dab goes a long way. I love to put a little extra on my lips too.
I also love Caudalie Vinosource sorbet as well and will switch them out time to time.
I use this as my night time cleanser but you could also use as your daytime as well.
I had never used night creams. I had the thought that putting moisturizer on overnight would clog my pores and lead to breakouts. This has a velvety, whipped texture that’s perfect to use overnight for moisture and to repair skin. It’s not oily, or greasy, and will help keep your skin clear.
So about 2-3 times a week, I take a little “me-time”, apply a mask and sit down with a cup of tea. My favorites are Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask and Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mask.
As a busy mom, the first step to my low key beauty regimen is a nice, glowing complexion. This is the Best DIY Coffee Face Scrub recipe. It combines my love of coffee with 3 easy natural ingredients for brighter skin.
When it comes to my skincare and beauty regimen, I’m a low maintenance girl. My routine is usually a face scrub for some exfoliation, a moisturizer, a swipe of bronzer for some color, and maybe some mascara. I love this DIY Coffee Face Scrub recipe. It seriously works better than any other expensive product I’ve ever used. The coffee contains antioxidants which works to help protect our skin from free radicals thereby increasing bloodflow, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and reversing the effects of UV damage from the sun. The sugar helps slough away any dead skin cells leaving behind fresh skin. And the coconut oil packs an extra punch of moisturizer as well as antimicrobial properties for any acne prone skin.
After a cold winter my skin’s been looking pretty dull and lackluster. Rubbing on this DIY Coffee Face Scrub seriously felt like an energy shot for my skin! And it left my skin looking so refreshed after, much like I look after drinking a cup of my favorite joe.
See recipe and directions below:
- 1/2 cup of ground coffee
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil
- In a bowl combine coffee and sugar mixing together.
- Add in coconut oil, stirring well.
- Apply a warm washcloth to your face for a few minutes (this helps to open your pores so it can drink up more of the coffee goodness reaping more of the benefits.)
- Apply scrub mixture in circular motions, being careful not to get into your eyes or mouth.
- Let sit for 15 minutes
- Wash off with a warm washcloth
- Store the rest in a mason jar in your bathroom or in a cool place.
There you have it! A quick, cheap and easy DIY Coffee Face Scrub recipe that will leave your skin looking and feeling like you just had an expensive treatment at the spa. If you happen to try this recipe let me know how you like it! Have a great weekend!
Happy FRI-YAYYYY! I can’t believe another week gone by and its already the last weekend of January! We are officially in the coldest months of winter and it makes me want to just do all things cozy a la curl up with a big blanket, drink a warm beverage and watch crime documentaries all day.
Yesterday my sister and I went on a little shopping outing to some of our favorite places, Hobby Lobby and Ulta – seriously we were like kids in a candy shop. And while I was strolling the aisles testing out all the different cosmetics and lathering myself with various lotions, a thought hit me – why not start a “Friday Favorites” post where every few weeks I share some of my favorite things that I am crushing on at the moment. So without further adieu lets get to it…
