Picture this – you run out to the store for milk, you don’t bring your diaper bag because you’re just running in and out. You pull into the parking lot at the store and realize your little one had a massive blowout. First of all, we’ve all been there.  I can’t tell you how many times this happened to me. If it wasn’t a diaper I needed, then it was something else – a blanket for the park, or a book or a toy to keep my little guy occupied while out in public.  That’s why I created an Emergency Toddler Car Kit, so that I am stocked and ready at all times.

Here are my Emergency Toddler Car Kit Essentials:

1.) Diapers – because you never know when there will be a blowout and it’s best to be prepared.

2.) Wipes – I use them for everything, from messy hands and faces to wiping off my counters. I love Huggies Natural Care Wipes. They’re 99% water based and are alcohol, paraben and fragrance free. Click here to buy some or head to your local Walmart.

3.) Diaper disposal bags – I keep these in my car and purse. And they are lavender scented!

4.) Hand sanitizer – It’s always a good idea to have on hand when traveling for after diaper changes, before eating or when out in public places.

5.) Spare change of clothes – I keep a pair of sweats/leggings, a t shirt, zip up hoodie, pair of socks and hat.

6.) Blanket – For the cooler months to keep warm and in the warmer months for picnics and trips to the beach and park. Love this one on Amazon

7.) Activity book – I have this one for my son and I love that it’s dry-erase. Just wipe clean and you can re-use. It’s a lifesaver when you have to wait somewhere and keep them occupied.

8.) Snacks – because it’s no fun dealing with a hangry toddler.

9.) Drinks – love these cups as they are spill proof too!

10.) Sunscreen – When the weather gets nicer, we often stop at the park or playground. I love having some extra sunscreen in the car to reapply as needed.

11.) First aid kit – Because bumps and scrapes happen. This one is lightweight and compact.

Must haves for your second baby from a second time mom

Must haves for baby #2
This post contains affiliate links meaning I make a small commission.

As we head into January and our second trimester, we’re starting to prepare for Baby #2. There’s something to be said for no longer being a first time mom.  There’s that feeling of self assurance. You know you will survive, you did it before.  You know what works for you, what doesn’t, and you know what items you need, and what you don’t need.

(This post has recently been edited as we’ve successfully closed on 1 year as parents of 2 little ones!)

When we made our registry for our first baby I remember being in Buy Buy Baby, with a huge list in my hand, feeling so overwhelmed with all of the baby gear. We literally registered for everything.  This time, being a more experienced mom, my motto is “efficiency”.

Here is a list of some of the “Must Haves” for your second baby.

Dockatot

Ask me before becoming a mom if I was planning to cosleep and the answer was “Hellz no.”  But when it was the only way #1 would sleep, you do what you gotta do. Looking back, I wished I had a cosleeper.  When I learned I was pregnant with #2, Dockatot was super gracious and sent me one of their beautiful sleepers. What I love about Dockatot is that it is an easy, portable solution to make your little one feel snuggled while sleeping safely on their backs. It’s all natural, 100% cotton and tested for breathability.

We literally brought ours everywhere with us, even the beach!

Baby Jogger city select

When we made our registry for our first baby, we registered for the Baby Jogger City Select because we knew we wanted at least two children and we wanted the option for a second seat. It’s very easy to steer and well built. However, it is on the heavier side.

Haakaa

Haakaa manual breast pump

The Haakaa manual breast pump is a god’s send for breastfeeding moms! Attach on the side you aren’t actively feeding on and it collects milk from your letdown.

Halo sleep sacks

These were a lifesaver with Maxwell. He was a little Houdini and could break out of the tightest swaddles, and I am a swaddling pro (that’s an L&D nurse for you). These kept him feeling snug as a bug.

Basket of Essentials

I put together a little basket of essentials and kept it handy in my living room so that everything I needed was always within reach.  I kept diapers, wipes, diaper cream, some nipple butter, water and snacks handy.

Activities to keep your older one occupied

I went to the Target Dollar Bin and got a few things off of Amazon Prime of some things that I knew would keep Maxwell occupied. Every time I would sit down to feed the baby, I would have him grab one of his things out of his basket and come sit next to me so that he could feel included too! Bonus – if you are pumping and let them help you hit the buttons on your pump, you’ll be the super cool mom!

How to boost your baby’s health with probiotics

This post is sponsored by Evivo but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

babys gut health

Have you ever heard the saying it all starts in the gut”? It’s true.  Your gut health is responsible for your overall health and wellness. As moms, we want to give our babies only the very best and protect them from harm.  But have you ever thought about protecting your little one’s gut?  I know when I was planning for the birth of our baby, I was busy researching the safest cribs, carseats, you name it but I never thought about baby probiotics and gut health.

The Importance of a Healthy Gut

Our bodies have a mix of tiny microorganisms (bacteria, viruses and yeast) which makes up our microbiome.  This microbiome contains healthy bacteria which helps to push out any of the harmful bacteria therefore strengthening our immune systems and aiding in a healthy gut.  More and more studies are showing that a healthy gut has been linked to fewer cases of allergies, eczema, obesity and diabetes.  But how does one acquire a healthy gut?

Babies acquire their gut health mainly from mom.  More specifically, babies acquire a healthy bacteria known as B. Infantis during birth as they pass through the vaginal canal and from breast milk.  However, today 9 out of 10 babies are missing this healthy bacteria.

How Evivo Can Help Restore Your Baby’s Microbiome

baby gut health

Evivo is the only probiotic that’s clinically proven to restore baby’s gut and repopulate it with the good bacteria that are missing. During a clinical trial, babies who received Evivo mixed with breast milk had their gut 100% repopulated with healthy bacteria.

Once daily, just mix the contents of one packet with some breastmilk and feed to your baby in the syringe provided.

pregnancy

I wish I had known about Evivo sooner.  For those who are new here and may not know our story, Maxwell was born via csection and we struggled with breastfeeding.  Had I known about it sooner, I definitely would have used Evivo to help replenish his gut flora.  But I must say, we are extremely lucky to have such a healthy, happy baby!

Throw The Perfect WILD One First Birthday

Wild One First birthday Party

It doesn’t seem possible that a year has already come and gone since we brought our little Maxwell home.  He has grown into quite the little adventurer and it seemed only appropriate to have a “Wild One” themed birthday party. (And we are huge fans of the book “Where The Wild Things Are.”)

I had so much fun planning this party and the theme is super easy to recreate. We used the book “Where The Wild Things Are” as inspiration and threw in some rustic elements to give it a real
wild feel.

First, the invitations. I used some of the scripting from the book and made these myself on Microsoft Word. I printed them out and just used some brown cardstock as a border. Incredibly easy and cheap!

Next was the decor.  I went with white, gold, black and of green for colors to keep it looking more earthy.

I love this shiplap photo banner and we’ve re-used it for Christmas card pics throughout the years.

I love chalkboards and this is one of my favorite quotes from the book, we used it as a way to greet our guests at the front door.

I found these cute crowns on Amazon and we had them out for all of our guests to wear in honor of our King of All Wild Things.

I love the rustic look of a naked cake and made one for Maxwell’s smash cake. We found this cute “Wild One” cake topper on Amazon. And then I found this cute tree stump at Michaels and decided to use it as a prop.

My mom found this cute shirt at Buy Buy Baby and then I got my little man this crown from you guessed it, Amazon! It made the cutest little outfit!

I also found this sweet Max costume on Amazon and we used it for his cake smash! Get one for your WILD THING

I really wanted to get my little wild one a teepee and found this super cute one on Amazon. It was easy peasy to put together too! You can get yours here
